Concert Performance Assessment Results!

Yesterday, our two concert ensembles performed at the annual MTSBOA Concert Performance Assessment, hosted at White House Heritage High School.  This event serves as the band program's version of a formal state assessment, where students are evaluated on key musical competencies aligned with state music education standards.

During the assessment, students perform selected musical pieces for a panel of 3 adjudicators, who will evaluate their technique, musicianship, and overall ensemble performance. Following the performance of their prepared pieces, the ensemble undergoes a sight-reading component that challenges students to perform a new piece of music with limited preparation, assessing their ability to read and interpret music on the spot (never before seen)—an essential skill for well-rounded musicians.

Scores are awarded on a scale of 1 (superior) to 5 by the panel of adjudicators.

The LHS Concert Band received an overall superior on stage and in sight reading!!

AND

The LHS Wind Ensemble once again earned superior on stage and in sight reading, WITH DISTINCTION!

*The American School Band Director Association Award of Distinction means that each of the judges marked “superior” in every sub category of the scoring rubric.  While distinction doesn’t mean “perfect”, it is the highest possible score and to achieve it is no small feat, especially at the highest music difficulty level!   The judges were so complimentary of the Wind Ensemble, stating they were such refined, musical, and well-trained artists.

This makes back-to-back years earning this award, and the Wind Ensemble students will be honored by ASBDA at the Spring Band Banquet in May.

We are so proud of all our students and the work they put in this semester!  Hug, high-five, or fist bump a band kid today. They are incredible humans!
